The Foundation was established by CNCDA in 1994 to encourage and support students interested in careers in the automobile industry and will continue its efforts to bring more high quality people into the automobile industry – raising the standards and elevating the stature of the industry as a whole. The California New Car Dealers Scholarship Foundation created a new scholarship award to honor Peter Welch this year. After 23 years with the California New Car Dealers Association, Peter Welch took the helm of the National Automobile Dealers Association. In 2005, Peter was instrumental in the creation of the auto technician scholarship fund. Through his commitment and direction, donations were raised to setup funds for auto technician scholarships. Since 2007, the Scholarship Foundation has awarded 499 scholarships to auto technicians totaling $279,750.
For the 2013-2014 school year, the California New Car Dealers Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships to 123 California students enrolled in post-secondary automotive technology or automotive management programs totaling $58,550. Since 1995, the Scholarship Foundation has awarded 573 scholarships totaling $546,850.
